Press Release: A unique initiative by PFI and Doordarshan

Posted on March 08, 2014

The story revolves around the inspiring journey of Dr. Sneha. She represents the young Indian woman of today, who thrives on challenges.

Emotionally torn between family and society, between professional aspirations and personal commitment, her struggles and triumphs form the core of this memorable soap opera. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, but it will also make you think. It is television like you’ve never seen before.

Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon will go on air on DD at 7 pm every Saturday and Sunday from March 8, 2014..

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Tripurari Sharan, Director General, Doordarshan said, “Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon, the exciting new serial on Doordarshan, has a riveting storyline and cast that will appeal to all ages, especially the young viewers. Our audience will benefit from a serial that is hugely entertaining and much more, the serial will inspire them to reflect, think and act.”

Mr Feroz Abbas Khan, Creative Director of the project, said, “Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon is not just a television series, it is entertainment with social responsibility. This programme challenges the regressive social ideas, female stereotyping and gender insensitivity that many of the soap operas propagate.”

“It is an attempt to unleash the power of television to be an agent of change. We are telling a compelling story about real people, real issues, real pain and real joy,” he further added.

Ms Poonam Muttreja, Executive Director, PFI, said, “Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon challenges deep rooted social issues like child marriage, early pregnancies and sex selection in our society. It deals with the very important topics of women’s safety, health and rights.”

“We are confident that this multi-media approach will resonate with each and every viewer. We anticipate that Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon will be immensely successful,” she added.

About  Population Foundation of India

Population Foundation of India (PFI) is a national-level NGO which promotes and advocates for effective formulation and implementation of gender-sensitive population and development policies, strategies and programmes. PFI was founded in 1970 by a group of socially committed industrialists under the leadership of the late JRD Tata and the late Bharat-Ram.

The thrust of PFI’s work on population issues today revolves around shifting the current discourse and practice on family planning to empowering people, especially the women to take considered decisions regarding their health and well being. PFI works with the government and like-minded NGOs to ensure that health care reaches all, and the woman can make these decisions about her life. Family planning is about giving both men and women the knowledge and means to plan and raise healthy families.
