PFI represents civil society at IBP Regional Consortium Meeting

Posted on February 16, 2018

Population Foundation of India (PFI), the National Secretariat for Advocating Reproductive Choices Coalition participated in the Implementing Best Practices (IBP) Consortium Meeting as Civil Society Focal Point for FP2020. The Consortium is a network of over 45 implementing partner organisations supported by WHO, UNFPA, and USAID with a mission to disseminate evidence based tools and guidelines, support implementation and scale up, and foster partnership in the domain of Family Planning. In line with the 2016-2020 Family Planning Strategy, the IBP Consortium hosted a Regional IBP Meeting in New Delhi that built on the WHO and FP2020 meetings in 2017.

The three-day workshop was focused on best practices being shared by sector practitioners and experts. The first two days highlighted the experiences of international agencies and last day focused on the contribution of Indian NGOs in the area of Family Planning and adolescent reproductive and sexual health in the light of FP2020 commitments.

PFI organised and spearheaded two sessions to demonstrate India’s FP commitments on ‘Leveraging civil society engagement’ and ‘Why youth and what can India do better to meet the youth's sexual and reproductive health needs?’ The sessions showcased how mobilising Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and young people are instrumental to meeting India’s FP2020 commitments. These sessions also highlighted CSOs experiences from the field and led to sharing and consensus building on best practices for CSO and youth programmes.

The Regional Meeting was an opportunity for IBP partners to share implementation practices, facilitate collaboration and support coordination. The updated Family Planning Handbook 2018 was also launched.
