Grow your greens initiative
Sunita, a resident of Gotna village, Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, conceived after five years of marriage. She got her first antenatal checkup done at the mobile clinic run by the Tata Chemical Society for Rural Development (TCSRD). Her blood test revealed that her hemoglobin level was only 7 gm. She was counseled and motivated by the doctor to grow green vegetables in her courtyard. She was also given iron and folic acid tablets.
The ASHA in her village regularly counseled and followed up with her. After three months, her hemoglobin had risen to 10 gm. This resulted in good health for Sunita during pregnancy and she gave birth to a healthy child.
The green vegetables initiative, regular counselling by the health workers and regular consumption of iron has improved the health of people, especially that of the pregnant women in the project area.
