Collaboration with Johns Hopkins University to Increase Reproductive Health Advocacy Capacity
Population Foundation of India and the Advance Family Planning (AFP) program at the Johns Hopkins University are working together to increase the reproductive health advocacy capacity, especially on family planning, among selected groups active in Delhi, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh (UP).
As part of the initiative, a series of trainings on the Spitfire SMARTCHART communication tool are being conducted to strengthen the capacity of potential leaders to plan, develop and manage advocacy activities. The first of these trainings was a training of trainers (TOT) workshop organized in January 2012. Twenty five people from organizations working on family planning and reproductive health were trained as master trainers. As a follow up, master trainers from this group will facilitate state level trainings in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
PFI also organized an Expert Group meeting in January to solicit strategic advice and guidance from experts in making the Spitfire tool appropriate for the Indian context. The expert group constituted of eminent researchers, development professionals, funders and representatives from the government.
