222, 402 persons (2001 Census) in seven Primary Health Centres (PHCs) from six backward districts of Northern Karnataka-Chandrabandha (Raichur), Kohinoor (Bidar), V K Salgar (Gulbarga), Kanuur (Bijapur), Nandikeshwara (Bagalkot) and Hudem and SRRPura (Bellary)

Goal     

To demonstrate models of Primary Health Centres which effectively deliver the essential RCH and primary health care services.

 

Objectives         

  • To manage routine functioning of select government PHCs and strengthen them into model PHCs
  • To maximise utilisation of RCH services at the sub-centres (SCs) of select model PHCs
  • To influence and facilitate change for improved health-seeking behaviour in the communities covered by the model PHCs

 

Key strategies

Build the capacity of managerial and clinical staff in PHC management and service delivery at PHCs and Sub centres

 

Focus on IEC and Behaviour Change Communication for improved demand for services and increasing community participation in management of PHCs and SCs

 

PFI is also providing technical support to Karuna Trust for scaling-up the model.
